~*Magic Guidelines*~

1. When sparring, use same rules as for normal fighting: i.e. all powers must be declared at start, you need to state position, direction, distance, force, etc.

2. All spells take energy to cast. The larger the spell, the more energy is needed. Also, you can’t gather enough energy for a powerful spell in a manner of seconds; the process takes time, so say how much time is taken to gather enough and where you’re gathering it from and focusing it to (like hands or mind). The effort put into a post describing energy and the forming of a spell should also reflect the power of the spell too. A simple post isn’t going to have much effect, especially if it is meant as an attack against an opponent. The more complicated the spell, the more time it will take to gather the amount of power to perform it. If you need more than one post to create a complex and potent spell, then do so! If you’re in a spar and you take more than one post to complete your attack, it will not be so easy for your opponent to ignore or evade it.

3. Spells need concentration to be maintained and completed. If you are sparring, keep in mind that your character will not be able to move as quickly to dodge an attack if they are concentrating on creating a spell. If you are hit, then your concentration will be weakened and the spell may need to be redone.

4. Keep movement, chanting, mental workings, and hand motions in mind while creating your post. You do not have to do all of these, but it helps with description and believability when performing a spell.

5. Describe the purpose of your spell while creating it, how it is affecting you or others around you, describe a breeze that might pick up during the process, and how strong it should be when finished. When sparring, you also might want to say what the side effects could be if your opponent is hit. These little descriptive details help those around you react appropriately to the spell.

6. Remember that because you are using energy to cast a spell, you character will begin to tire. As your character tires, you might not be able to focus as easily, gather enough concentration, or dodge attacks. Your character is not invincible, so will not be able to fight for forever and not be hit.

7. Keep in mind your character’s age and magic experience when casting spells, and the same details of a sparring partner. If you’re an apprentice, you won’t be able to defeat a Realm’s sorceress in a matter of two posts. Be reasonable with your power level.

8. NO godmoding will be accepted under any circumstances, no matter what the rank.

Be creative with your posts. Remember that the more description and effort you put into it, the easier it will be to understand and believe. If you have any questions, you can ask others for assistance.
